Home energy audits are the best way to uncover waste in home energy use and begin taking immediate steps to maximize efficiency. By reducing your carbon emissions, you contribute to the health of our planet and save money.

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, partnering with Connecticut’s electric and natural gas utilities, offers the Home Energy Solutions (HES) energy auditing program.

You can arrange for an audit by calling one of the authorized contractors listed on the Home Energy Solutions (http://www NULL.cl-p NULL.com/Home/SaveEnergy/Rebates/HomeEnergySolutions NULL.aspx) website or applying on line. The audit generally costs about $75. The contractor visits your home and:

  • Conducts energy efficiency tests
  • Makes on-the-spot weatherization and energy-saving improvements
  • Discusses the work completed and offers recommendations for additional steps
  • Informs you of rebates available for future work, if applicable

Free auditing and weatherization services are available under the Home Energy Solutions – Income-Eligible (HES-IE) (http://www NULL.cl-p NULL.com/home/saveenergy/rebates/IncomeEligible NULL.aspx) Program for those who meet income guidelines.

HES-IE is available to both homeowners and renters. Please note that renters must submit a completed Owner’s Permission Statement with their application.

HES-IE includes installation of compact fluorescent bulbs, water-saving aerators and low-flow showerheads as well as caulking of leaks in windows and doors. In addition, some participants qualify for attic insulation and appliance upgrades.
